12/15/2023 0 Comments Carbon fiber handguard![]() ![]() If you are running DI, Faxon, Lancer and other major manufacturers are probably GTG. Nice thing is that it has enough clearance for a piston system to fit under it as well it that is something you are looking at. No issues with crushing the CF and it's pretty rigid. Mounts to a standard barrel nut has full length to pic rail and the 7 other sides of it's octoganal shape are full of M-LOK-y goodness. I have the M-LOK Troy 15" CF Battle rail on my SHTF rifle (aka the Tax Return) and love it. Down side is these are handguards and don't have M-LOK, Keymod or picattiny rails (well some of the Cooltubz do). No idea about Cool tubes (though they have custom wraps that look really neat. I love CF as a material and researched the heck outta it when I was looking at building my ARs.Ĭool Tubz, and Clark Custom are some of the most affordable and at least Clarks has a good reputation and reviews out there. Ballistic Advantage had a nice sale on them for Black Friday and might do the same a little closer to Christmas. If not, one of the AP Atlas handguards will serve your purpose well enough. If you have the funds to swing the Lancer setup it is impressive. I generally stick to an A2 front sight and Magpul SL handguards, but if the build required a free floated handguard I'd buy another AP Atlas series handguard. I was impressed and it was refreshing to get some CS that didn't require a lot of time invested. CS from AP was concise yet friendly and they sent me an entire hardware and tool setup. Mine came packed with two RH threaded wedges (you need a right and a left) and I ended up needing some CS. ![]() I was basically looking for something good yet affordable to recommend to customers. Coincidentally, the attachment system is the main thing that drew me to it. The turnbuckle and wedge system allows for some adjustment with indexing the handguard to the upper receiver if the barrel nut isn't exactly aligned spot on. feels great in the hand, there is still plenty of clearance for a low pro as block (an issue with some of the upper included PSA rails, if your railed PSA doesn't shoot, check gas block clearance), when hot (firing rapidly) you will likely need gloves, not too bad on the wallet, and I like the means of attaching the handguard to the barrel nut (no Yeng Feng Sheng screws!). With a thicker barrel profile, scope, and bipod I wanted to shed some weight elsewhere. I am demo'ing an Aero Precision Atlas S One 15" handguard (from my shop, not from a different source to review) on a 18" SPR build. A friend of mine has one of the Lancer CF handguards and it is indeed a beautiful and very well thought out piece, however, it is way too rich for my blood when other available things will serve the same basic purpose (FF, reasonably durable, and lightweight). ![]()
